Annotation -
The subject introduces students into questions related to the human aspects of the Bible, i.e. the historical background of the Old and New Testament, including important religious, cultural, and social phenomens and history of the Old and New Testament text, its important recensions and versions. A short overview of life and institutions of ancient Israel and of Early Judaism will be documented by accomplishments of archeological research. In the history of the biblical text a special attention will be given to the Bible in Czech culture and Christianity.

The goal of the course is to gain a basic understanding of the formation and tradition of the biblical text, including the broad historical background of this process.
