Aim of the course

Předmět je vyučován v rámci oboru NSS na Pedagogické univerzitě v Krakově:

The aim of the course is to provide students with a general overview of Polish-German
relations since the Congress of Vienna to the disintegration of the Soviet bloc and the
reunification of Germany. The course will examine issues such as coexistence of
Germans and Poles in the Prussian partition in the nineteenth century; an attitude of
Prussia and united Germany towards Polish national uprisings in the nineteenth
century; the Germanization policy pursued in the era of the Kulturkampf, and then
during the reign of Wilhelm II; Polish question during World War I; the relationship
between the Second Republic of Poland and the Weimar Republic as well as the
Third Reich in the years 1918-1939; an attitude of the Nazis towards Poles during
World War II; and finally relations between the People's Republic of Poland and the
Federal Republic of Germany as well as the German Democratic Republic. The year
1989 will be presented as a breakthrough in Polish-German relations and the
beginning of the process of reconciliation of the two free European nations.
