The course will introduce social science methods relevant to area studies. Besides general issues of philosophy of science, it will focus on practical problems of the relationship between theory and method, on the research problem as the core of scientific inquiry, the difference between qualitative and quantitative methods and it will also offer an overview of the most important qualitative methods.
The course is open only for students of master's degree programmes.

Kurs uvede studenty do metodologie společenských věd relevantní pro teritoriální studia. Vedle obecných otázek filosofie vědy se bude věnovat zejména praktickým problémům vztahu teorie a metody, problému jako jádru vědeckého poznávání, rozdílu mezi kvantitativními a kvalitativními metodami a podá přehled nejdůležitějších kvalitativních metod.
