Last update: doc. PhDr. Jiří Vykoukal, CSc. (09.06.2019)
The course will introduce students to the most important developments in the Northern American territory since the end of the Cold War. Emphasis is placed on major problems in domestic politics in multidisciplinary perspective.
Aim of the course -
Last update: doc. PhDr. Jiří Vykoukal, CSc. (09.06.2019)

By the end of the course, the student will have understood the roots of the most pressing contemporary foreign policy, political, social, and economic issues of North America. The students will be able to explain the underlying causes of said issues and their historical context. This understanding should help the students to fathom the complex nature of the phenomena we can observe in US, Canada, and Mexico today. The emphasis will be given to the U.S. perspective, for topics pertaining mostly or exclusively to the U.S. (e.g. Unilateralism, Interventionism, Supreme Court). Topics pertaining equally to Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. (e.g. NAFTA, Energy Policy) will be described from the perspective of all three actors.
