The Introduction to the State and Politics course provides an introduction to basic terms and concepts primarily from the field of comparative politics, with overlaps into issues concerning the state. During the course, students will be introduced to issues such as the definition of politics and its development, the functioning of the state, the theory and practice of democratic and undemocratic regimes, the theory of parties and party systems, the political consequences of elections and electoral systems, the definition of the main ideologies that determine contemporary politics, etc. Methodologically, the course will be based on the empirical-analytical traditions of contemporary political science, especially in its comparative form. This course is taught in Czech.

Cílem předmětu je seznámit posluchače se základními koncepty teorie politiky a naučit je tyto koncepty používat v praxi, tj. aplikovat je na politickou praxi. Jde o to, aby studenti v budoucnu nesklouzávali pouze k deskriptivním postupům, ale dokázali politické jevy analyzovat právě s pomocí příslušných teorií. Cílem předmětu je dále naučit studenty kritického přístupu ke zkoumání a aplikování těchto teorií. Zkouška se skládá z písemného testu. Je to multiple-choice test. U každé otázky jsou tři možnosti odpovědi. Jenom jedna z nich je správná. Test proběhne online v moodle2. Zkouškové termíny budou standardně vypsány v SISu. O případných změnách budou studenti informováni hromadným e-mailem, generovaným prostřednictvím SiSu. Last update: Kubát Michal, prof. Use of generative AI tools: The use and citation of generative AI tools (such as ChatGPT or MS Copilot) in seminar papers and other coursework must comply with the decrees of the IMS Director No. 7/2023 and 9/2023. Generative AI tools may be used unless explicitly prohibited by the instructor. However, they may not be used to generate substantial sections of the text or replace the student’s own intellectual contribution. The student remains fully responsible for any content generated with assistance of AI tools. Presenting AI-generated content, whether verbatim, rephrased, or only slightly modified, as one’s own work constitutes plagiarism. Every submitted paper must include a transparent statement specifying which generative AI tools were used, in which stage of the work they were employed, and how they were used, or confirming that no generative AI tools were used. If this statement is missing or incomplete, the instructor is not permitted to accept the paper for evaluation. Unless the instructor explicitly prohibits the use of generative AI tools, the decision to use or not to use them rests fully with the student. Předmět je zakončen písemnou zkouškou ve formě znalostního testu, který vychází z přednesené látky a zadané literatury.
Studenti jsou klasifikováni z celkového výsledku následovně: 91 a více = A 81–90 % = B 71–80 % = C 61–70 % = D 51–60 % = E 0–50 % = F
