The aim of the course is to lead students to combine theoretical knowledge with the skills needed for research and analysis of migration processes and/or implementation of migration policies. The practical implementation of the course can take three forms: an internship, a workshop or a field placement, all within 120 hours (6 ECTS) or 180 hours (9 ECTS). The location and form of this study obligation are subject to the approval of the degree programme supervisor at the university where the student will write the thesis.
Students defending their diploma thesis at Charles University are required to complete the “Internship Plan” form (provided within the course Diploma Seminar I), which they must promptly submit for approval to the internship coordinator, Tereza Freidingerová. (1) Internship: a standard internship within an institution (a selected department of a state or public administration, EU institution, municipality, NGO or a research centre). The content of the work carried out at the institution must correspond to the focus of the MSNS study programme or must be fully aligned with the student’s thesis research. (2) Workshop: organisation of a workshop on a pre-approved topic, with the involvement of relevant stakeholders. (this option is available only at UNIMI) The workshop must have at least one of the following outputs: a) a policy paper; b) a media message covered by the relevant content providers; c) recommendations towards the public administration, the non-profit sector or the private sector. (3) Fieldwork: typically field research and data analysis under the guidance of the thesis supervisor (must be directly related to the diploma thesis).
