The objective of the courses delivered during the summer school "Central Europe between Germany and Russia" is to
provide students a broad understanding on the historical, political, economic, social and cultural development of Central
Europe. Moreover, this two week intensive academic program analyses Central Europe`s role as an international political
and economic player and the relations to its biggest neighbours - Germany and Russia.

Students will get an excellent overview and become familiar with the past, present and future of this region and its various aspects taking into account the historical experience with Germany and Russia as determinants for the current situation.

The course is based on an interdisciplinary approach and combines different methodologies such as lectures, workshops, round-table discussions, group-work and students` presentations.

1. History until 1989 - Overview lecture on the history of Central European region incl. its relation to Germany and Russia

Workshop 1 - Central Europe and the Sowjet Union (inc. Prague Spring 1968, and ?Velvet Revolution 1989")

Workshop 2 - Focus on Germany (Berlin Wall, RAF and left-terrorism of 1970s, Willy Brandt and Ostpolitik)

2. History since 1989- Overview lecture on the history of Central Europe since the fall od the Iron Curtain

Students should note that the summer school classes are not part of the standard curriculum and we therefore have to charge them to cover our costs. Everybody who wishes to attend these classes must pay a fee of euro 777. More is to be found on this website: http://summer-university.fsv.cuni.cz/fees-and-registration/how-to-apply.

Because these classes are available only to students who pay the attendance fee, it is not possible for students to register by themselves. Students will be registered in SIS by the staff of the faculty, after we have received payment.
