The intensive seminar “Politics of Memory in the Post-Soviet Space” aims at providing a comprehensive and
profound knowledge on competing politics of memory in a contested post-Soviet space. The course discusses this
phenomenon within the framework of redesigning urban landscapes and school curricula in a region stretching
from the Russian homeland over the Baltic region, to the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia. The course
provides the students with the insight into the multi-layered landscape of post-Soviet memory politics and raises
their awareness for the role memory plays in raising and refuting territorial claims.
