Annotation

In the first year the emphasis is placed on speaking and comprehending skills.
After passing students should understand everyday communication situations and be able to respond to them. During the
course they develop all their language skills and become acquainted with Russian system of cases and tenses, imperative,
conditional. Topics of the lessons relate to real life practise, so students should be able to handle specific practical situations
in a real environment.

Aim of the course

This is the second of two introductory-level courses, during which most of the basic grammar of Russian is covered. 

Students develop all their language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and are also led to the correct pronunciation. 

They will increase their vocabulary. 

They will practice gradually all the grammar cases, will work with all parts of the speech, get acquainted with reflexive verbs, perfective and imperfective verbs, verbs of motion. 

To the end of this level they should be able to tell about their day, their apartment, neighbourhood and city, restaurants and food, travelings, shopping and hotels, gifts and holidays.

Teaching methods

Classes are conducted in English and Russian (Czech can be involved, too, if there is at least one Czech speaking student in the group, so we can briefly draw linguistic parallels).

All the students are actively engaged and involved into every lesson.

Students work altogether, in pairs, in groups of three and individually.

Each lesson and homework contains plenty of grammar and vocabulary exercises both written and oral.

Students translate sentences into Russian, write short essays, learn how to ask questions. Quizzes, language games, videos are incorporated, too.
