The aim of this course is to help students get familiar and comfortable working with primary sources and, at the same time, getting acquainted with some of the important documents of American history. While the course will follow a basic chronology from the 17th to the 19th century, it is not going to represent a full chronological or comprehensive narrative. Rather, the documents selected will help students to understand and analyze specific moments, themes, or issues in a broader context of American history.
