Annotation -
The course is designed not only to promote language skills, but also to give students a chance to try out short video production. Great emphasis is placed on working independently within individual teams as the seminars are not designed traditionally, i.e. on a weekly basis / see the syllabus.

Aim of the course -

Joint production of 30 short videos (explainers) covering topics which students encounter during their studies at FSV and should be able to discuss in English. Such videos will be available to the general public on the faculty YouTube channel.

Teaching methods -

The course is designed as task-based learning. Students are to meet four times with their lecturers and during such meetings they will be assigned a home project which they will be asked to present during the upcoming meeting. Not only will students improve their English skills, they will also focus on soft skills, i.e. team cooperation and creativity.

Requirements to the exam -

To obtain the credits, students should be active in all phases of the video production (topic, screenplay, realisation) and subsequently submit the allocated number of videos following the assigned deadline.

Students will be evaluated as per submitted tasks agreed upon during the previous meeting.

Syllabus -

19 February  2020 – Meeting 1 (Hollar, room 11, 16:00 - 17:20) - LAST MINUTE CHANGE DUE TO WATER SUPPLY OUTAGE IN HOLLAR - the meeting will take place on 26th February
Students together with the lecturers will agree on possible topics and the style of the videos.

Selection of  a suitable format  for video production, the question of copyright

Task – preparation of two screenplays (to be uploaded onto the Google drive two days before the next meeting).


11 March  2020 – Meeting 2
Language: Presenting a project, Stating opinions
Presentation and further discussion about the screenplays. Comments regarding the language.
Task – transfer of screenplays into videos (team work; to be uploaded onto the Google drive two days before the next meeting). 


8 April  2020 – Meeting 3
Language: Comparing and contrasting
Discussion about the presented videos. Assigment of final versions of videos to individual teams.

Task: Preparation of videos. Students are asked to share their videos at least a week prior to the upcoming seminar.


6 May 2020 – Meeting 4
Presentation of videos, evaluation, final touches.
Task – self-assessment (What did I gain from the course? What would I do differently next time?) – students are asked to submit the self-assessment by 15 May 2020.

Entry requirements -

The required level of English is at least B2 level upper-intermediate. The course is open to FSV students only.

Preference will be given to students of year 2 and above. Minimum to open the course is 9 students.
