In the Czech as a Foreign Language A1/1 level course, emphasis is placed on communication skills from the very beginning of the course. The lessons are purely practical and should help students to understand and speak in basic communication situations such as: getting to know each other, finding their way around a city or building, shopping, ordering in a restaurant, making an appointment, etc. Although the Czech grammar is very simplified, students will learn the paradigm of the Czech case system, typical prepositions and their situational use.
The course consists of 24 lessons, which take place twice a week throughout the semester. One lesson lasts 80 minutes, while the remaining 40 minutes are for self-study. It is essential to attend both lessons per week. The price of the course is 4800 Czech crowns. Students enrolled in a bachelor's or master's programme do not pay for the course directly at the cash desk, like Erasmus or PhD students, but through interfaculty financial settlement. Our main aim is communication in Czech from the beginning, students work in groups or couples and speak only Czech. During some lessons (Shopping, Orientation) students go to streets to prove their skills. Teachers are always very supportive, they create a kind atmosphere during sessions and try to overcome any difficulty. During lessons are used gestures, games, pictures, videos. About AI: Here are situations and contexts within this course where you will be encouraged to use AI tools to explore how they can be used. This will only be done on a voluntary basis. Outside of those circumstances, you are asked not to use AI tools to generate content (text, video, audio, images) that will end up in any student work (assignments, activities, responses, etc) that is part of your evaluation in this course. When practising your language skills, it is ok to use AI to support your language development. You can use it for brainstorming, creating outlines, even when training written production. Remember it is not ok, however, to use AI to think for us or to do the hard work of figuring out how to express our ideas in our writing. WRITING = THINKING. As far as teachers’ work with AI is concerned, any use of artificial intelligence tools will be carried out in a way that protects students' personal data. Student work will not be used to train AI models. The prerequisite for obtaining 6 credits and passing the exam is active participation in the course (70%). Active participation constitutes one third of your final grade. The exam cannot be taken online. If the student needs to return to his/her country before the end of the course, it is the student's responsibility to arrange an oral exam with the teacher. The exam can also be taken with another teacher, but only with permission from both teachers. 80 minutes of interactive studying with a teacher, reamining 40 minutes of self studies. Participation in at least 18 courses out of the total number of courses is required, it is possible to have a maximum of 4 absences (whenever the student needs), further absences only with a scan of a doctor's excuse We require an active approach, i.e. - completion of the assigned tasks in class - completing assigned homework - midterm after 6 weeks of lessons or tests at the end of each thematic lesson. The teacher will inform students about the chosen method. Successful completion of the midterm test(s) is a prerequisite for admission to the final test. - final after 12 weeks of teaching - oral exam graded on an A-E scale (100 - 50%) If the student fails to complete all homework assignments or fails the midterm test, the grade will be lowered by one grade Regular full-time coursework: Final test (45min): grammar and vocabulary from lessons 1 - 6. Oral exam: me and my family, daily routine, dialogue in a restaurant, in a doorman, in a shop, description of a picture. The final grade consists of an in-class activity, a test summarizing the knowledge of the first half of the semester, a final exam (oral and written part) 75% participation is required.
