Annotation -

The course is intended primarily for students of bachelor‘s and master‘s studies in economics and for students who want to consolidate and expand their knowledge of the general language with regard to the specific needs of future economists. The course aims for broadening and practicing vocabulary in the area of the general language, acquiring basic vocabulary of economic German for given topics, understanding written and heard scholarly texts, being able to interpret them and conduct simple discussions about them, as well as reviewing and practicing of grammar. The course takes place in the summer semester and is a good preparation for the follow-up course of “German for Economists intermediate” and its successful completion.

Aim of the course -

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to understand the main ideas contained in simple scholarly texts on a given topic, will be able to interpret them and to become involved in a dialogue on a well-known topic, or simply to express his or her opinion. The student will be able to write a simple text on a well-known economic topic. At the same time, the two-semester course is a good preparation for handling the follow-up courses in economic German without major barriers, i.e. for further development of the specialized language.

Requirements to the exam -

Pre-requisites to obtain the qualified credit for the class, the so called "klasifikovaný zápočet":

- active participation in lessons (a good pre-requisite for successful completion of the course; therefore, attendance is highly recommended)

- one complex test held during the examination period (max. 70 points) covering the materials from summer semester. Students are entitled to 2 re-takes, i.e. all together they have 3 attempts. The test takes about 60 minutes.
