Within the framework of this course, we will introduce basic systems of thinking about media that come out from system theories of sociology and structuralism. The subject will be a combination of general and concrete; on the general level, it will acquaint the students with basic system theories of media, especially with the concept of media systems of Hallin and Manchini. On the concrete level, the course will introduce media systems of selected countries with accent on the development of their structure, particular media types and presenting their dominant representatives (media organisations and products). Absolving the course, students should acquire basic overview of the typology of media landscape, acquire the ability to distinguish basic determining distinctive features and ability to think about media and media organisations on the level of higher system units that come in different types of interaction both on horizontal or vertical level.
