Annotation
This course provides basic tools to analyze and manage risk. The focus is given to identification and measurement of risk, diversification, pricing, insurance demand theory, loss control, as well as other insurance issues.
Registration into this compact course is open until the first day of the course.

Aim of the course
After completing the course, the students will be able to understand the nature of insurance and risk management. They will be able to apply diversification and other risk management methods to mitigate personal risk. They will also understand the importance of loss control and other risk transfer methods.

Course completion requirements

To successfully finish the course, students have to pass the final knowledge verification quiz (60 minutes, pass/fail only, closed-book, no calculators allowed, the standard 51% pass rule applies).

No registration for the quiz in SIS is needed (there is no official term listed in the 'Exam dates' module).

Identification: please bring your ID card (ISIC, national ID, passport) and have it available at the start of the quiz. The ID must be visible on your desk during the entire quiz.

- Risk Identification - Risk management process, methods, hedging and diversification
- Objective of risk management
- Identification of risk
- Measurement of risk (statistical methods)

Day 2:
- Measurement of Risk (continued)
- Pooling arrangement and diversification of risk

Day 3:
- Insurer ownership, financial and operational structure
- Insolvencies, and solvency ratings
- Insurance pricing and demand
- loss control

Registration requirements
Participating students should have basic knowledge of calculus and statistics. Knowledge on intermediate-level microeconomic theory is recommended.
