Annotation -
Active pharmaceutical ingredients are transformed into appropriate dosage forms by special technological procedures using pharmaceutical excipients. The pharmaceutical manufacturing processed include physical and chemical processes and can be divided into a series of unit operations, namely particle size reduction (milling, micronization), separation procedures (sieving, drying, lyophilisation, dissolution, extraction, filtration, centrifugation) and homogenisation procedures (mixing of liquid, semi-solid and solid materials). Besides these basic operations, also special production procedures typical at particular dosage forms are applied: granulation, tablet pressing, coating, sterilization, and formulation processes of novel pharmaceutical dosage forms: coacervation, extrusion, spheronization, and others.
