The course introduces students to the field of pharmacy, its place in the healthcare system, and pharmacist's role in practice. It also covers basic pharmaceutical categories and principles of healthcare. It provides the fundamental knowledge necessary to understand the importance of pharmacy and pharmacists in the healthcare system and in society in general. The knowledge gained in this course will be further developed and interconnected during the course of further study.

The course ends with credit.
To obtain credit, it is necessary to attend the seminar and excursion to the hospital pharmacy. Achieving a minimum of 12 points in the written test. The test contains 20 closed questions with a choice of 4 answers, with only one correct answer.

The course provides a basic theoretical framework for courses taught by the Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy in higher level of study: Law and Ethics for Pharmacists, Communication for Pharmacists, Pharmaceutical Care I and II, Clinical Pharmacy I, Social Pharmacy, and Pharmacists in Healthcare Practice. After completing the course, students will be able to define basic concepts in the field of healthcare and pharmacy, characterize the importance of pharmacy and pharmacists in the healthcare system and in society in general, and understand the basic principles of healthcare.
Learning outcomes:
Based on the knowledge and skills acquired, students will be able to: Characterize the importance of pharmacy in the healthcare system Characterize the importance and role of pharmacists in the healthcare system and in society Define the basic categories of healthcare (health, illness, and related concepts) and pharmacy (medicines, medicinal products, and related concepts) Characterize the importance of medicines from the perspective of patients, healthcare professionals, and society.
