The subject acquaints students with major ethical systems, principles of medical ethics and ethical issues in various fields of pharmacy, basic principles of the western legal system and with basic institutes of private and public law, emphasizing examples and ethical and legal norms affecting the profession of pharmacist. The aim of the subject is to increase and improve the level of ethical and legal consciousness of pharmacy students, and to provide students with ability to apply ethical principles and basic principles of law in their future professional activities. Topics: Medical ethics; Pharmacy ethics; Introduction to Western legal systems; Basics of constitutional law, civil law, and public law; Health law of the European Union; Pharmaceutical law in the EU and USA.

The exam takes the form of a written test: The first part contains 8 closed (multiple choice) questions from the field of ethics. No written or electronic materials (devices) are permitted during this part. The second part contains 12 closed questions from the field of law. Written or electronic materials are permitted in this part. It is forbidden to communicate with other people in any way. This will be specified by Dr. Kučera during law lectures. For closed questions, there are 4 answers to choose from, and there is always one correct answer. The minimum number of points required to pass the exam is 12 points. The course provides the basic ethical and legal framework for the courses Pharmaceutical Care I and II, Clinical Pharmacy I, Social Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice. After completing the course, students independently apply the principles of medical ethics and the legal system of a modern democratic state in the context of the future profession of pharmacist. They identify and discuss ethical issues in various areas of pharmacy. They characterize the basic legal regulations in the field of health care and areas closely related to the future practice of the health care profession.
