Learning outcomes -

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe the structure of a hospital, main departments, and their functions in English. 

  • Complete basic admission and discharge forms in English and understand their content. 

  • Use common English abbreviations and expressions found in medical documentation. 

  • Conduct a basic patient history interview in English using appropriate questions 

  • Identify common symptoms and medical conditions and record them clearly in English. 

  • Provide clear and understandable instructions to the patient during a physical examination. 

  • Describe various types of pain and apply the appropriate terminology (e.g. sharp, dull, throbbing). 

  • Interpret basic vital signs (e.g. blood pressure, pulse, temperature) and explain their significance to the patient. 

  • Describe laboratory tests (e.g. blood tests) and communicate their results in English. 

  • Identify and describe different types of medications, methods of administration, and dosage. 

  • Recognize and correctly use common Latin abbreviations in English prescriptions and instructions. 

  • Communicate effectively in emergency situations – e.g. during triage, making an emergency call, or providing first aid. 

  • Respond appropriately in simulated crisis scenarios (e.g. cardiac arrest, unconscious patient) in English. 

  • Apply professional vocabulary and communication strategies when working with patients in a hospital setting.
