Annotation -
The aim of the course is to deepen knowledge of the Czech language and to train communication with patient during their examination a treatment. Students will concentrate on communication skills for practice in hospital (doctor–nurse–patient).

Course completion requirements -

Credit: attendance (max. 1 absence/semester), successful completion of continuous tests (i.e. achievement of min. 70%, number of attempts is 3), examination and treatment of one Czech-speaking patient, evaluation according to specified criteria, it is necessary to achieve min. 70%.

Learning outcomes -

At the end of the course, the student will be able to: 

  • recognize and name dental instruments or devices, ask the nurse for assistance, and justify the request; 

  • recognize and name dental hygiene tools (and their types) and briefly describe their purpose; 

  • use basic instructions during patient examination/treatment (imperative, modal verbs); 

  • respond to the patient appropriately to the sociocultural context; 

  • use compensatory strategies in order to avoid misunderstandings and achieve the communicative goal. 

Notes: 

The exit level corresponds approximately to A2 according to the CEFR, with specifications for language for specific purposes. 

The student is able to communicate using simple sentences and understands the communication partner if they are able to do the same; otherwise, the student is able to capture key words in order to understand the essential factual information.
