Annotation -
Lectures: Types of dentures - dividing, description, basic indication:
artificial crowns ( metal, resin, ceramic and veneer crowns),
post core, post crown, fixed bridges, partial and complete dentures;
temporary immediate and half- immediate dentures.
Classification of dental arch defects (Voldřich, Kennedy).
Classification of abutment teeth, biological factor of teeth.
Fundamentals of gnatology: setting of teeth in dental arch, jaw-joint,
masticatory muscles, movements of mandible, basic jaw relationships.
Examination and plan of prosthetic treatment.

Practics: Training of crown preparation on phantoms
(metal, non-metal, veneer crowns, post core, post crown).

Prevention in periodontology. Oral hygiene.
Toothbrushing methods. Methods of professional oral hygiene, prophylactic methods.
Hygienic and gingival indices.
Anatomy and physiology of periodontal tissues.

Requirements to the exam

Rules for the  exam in Preclinical dentistry:

- the oral exam is preceded by completed credits from the subject for the 2nd year

- the oral exam is preceded by a completed test in periodontology, which is an integral part of the exam (can be repeated a maximum of 2 times). The questions in the test are within the scope of lectures on Preclinical Dentistry and Preventive Dentistry and Cariology.

The oral exam consists of three parts:

- theoretical knowledge in the field of restorative dentistry (including tools, tooth recognition and prepared II class cavity)

- theoretical knowledge in the field of prosthetic dentistry (including tools)

  • theoretical knowledge in the field of surgical dentistry (including tools)

Preclinical Dentistry – learning objectives

Conservative part

The participant is able to describe, discuss, explain or state the following topics:

̶            morphology of the oral cavity

̶            arrangement of the teeth in the mouth, dentition, tooth numbering system

̶            morphology of the teeth (surfaces, cusps, fissures, pulpal space)

̶            dental tissues enamel, dentin, cement, pulp (composition, microscopic structure, function)

̶            supporting structures of the teeth

 

̶            oral lesions of non-microbial origin (erosion, abrasion, attrition), treatment

̶            dental caries (etiology, symptomatology, treatment, prevention)

̶            classification of oral lesions (G. V. Black, Mount-Hume)

̶            different types and clinical terminology of dental caries

̶            principles of cavity design and preparation step by step for amg and composite

̶            preparation and treatment of 2nd class caries

̶            adhesive preparation, acid-etch technique, bonding to the namel and dentin

̶            layered technique indication, used materials, working procedure

̶            inlays (materials, indication, working procedure, advantage and disadvantage)

 

̶            permanent plastic filling materials – indications

̶            amalgam – composition, indication, manipulation, application, hazard

̶            composites – composition, indication, working procedure

̶            glass ionomer cements, compomers – composition, indication, properties

 

̶            pulp disease and its sequelae (pulpitis, necrosis, periodontitis), etiology

̶            pulp capping IPC, DPC, indication, technique

̶            pulpotomy, pulpectomy, apexogenesis, extirpation

̶            root canal treatment step by step (access, unroofing,…)

̶            flaring of canal orifices – instruments, technique

̶            determination of the root working length (aim, apical stop, technique)

̶            biomechanical preparation of the root canal – used instruments

̶            filling the root canal, materials, different methods

̶            lateral condensation step by step

̶            accidents during the root canal treatment

̶            pulp protection materials

 

̶            dental instruments used in operative dentistry

̶            endodontic instruments
