Learning outcomes -

At the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • express themselves in the present, past, and future tenses using imperfective verbs (including irregular, modal, and reflexive verbs);

  • express themselves in the past and future tenses using a small number of selected perfective verbs, whose forms are deliberately lexicalized;

  • express quality and degree (including comparison) using selected adjectives and adverbs;

  • recognize and name types of teeth, parts and layers of a tooth, and types of dentition;

  • ask the patient about problems with tooth eruption and about their dental hygiene habits;

  • recognize and name types of dental caries (by location, by layer of the tooth, and by the dental pulp);

  • ask the patient about symptoms of dental caries, pulpitis, and periodontitis, and briefly describe these diseases;

  • instruct the patient about their diagnosis and treatment;

  • use phrases commonly employed when a patient arrives and leaves;

  • ask the patient about their health problems and understand basic complaints related to the oral cavity;

  • take a patient’s dental history (stomatological anamnesis);

  • name which parts of the body are being examined and which problems are being looked for;

  • communicate with the patient as well as with medical staff about the patient’s oral health and, in particular, dentition;

  • ask the patient detailed questions about pain;

  • ask the patient about items in the dental medical record and write them down;

  • examine the patient’s dentition and record/dictate the results into the examination form.

Notes:
The exit level corresponds approximately to A2 according to the CEFR, with specifications for language for specific purposes.

The student is able to communicate using simple sentences and understands the communication partner if they also use simple sentences. If the communication partner uses more complex sentence structures, the student is able to capture key words in order to understand the essential factual information.
