Students will familiarize themselves with the structure of the Latin and Greek medical terminology, they will learn to analyse the terms from the grammatical, morphological, and even etymological points of view and to use them functionally. They will further develop their knowledge through understanding the terms in the broader context of the language and the content. |

Credit is awarded based on passing two partial tests (pass 70%). The tests take place on-line on the Moodle 3 platform and cannot be retaken. In case of non-fulfillment of these requirements, the condition of the credit is a comprehensive credit test (success rate of at least 70%, maximum of 3 re-sittings). The credit test takes place during the examination period. |

COURSE SYLLABUS: TEST 1 Declension of Latin nouns: 4th declension. Declension of Latin nouns: 5th declension. Substantivization of adjectives. Declension of Latin nouns: 3rd declension - imparisyllaba (tumor - operatio - corpus). Comparative and superlative forms Declension of Latin nouns: 3rd declension - i-stems (auris, dens) and exceptions to the 3rd declension rules.
TEST 2 Combining all types of nouns with an adjective. Prepositional phrases. Revision. CREDIT TEST Summer Term Revision of the winter term. Greek nouns in the Latin declension (3rd declension): ureter - basis - trauma; terminological classification of illness: -itis, -osis, -oma. Diagnosis clinica. Latin adjectives of the 3rd declension. Third declension adjectives (revision). Regular comparison of adjectives (comparative and superlative degrees). TEST 1 Greek stems – their use in nouns and adjectives. Linguistic analysis of a complex medical term into morphological components; selecting meaningful units; creating medical concepts. MT practice. TEST 2 CREDIT TEST |
