The course represents introduction in endocrine and metabolic diseases in an integrated way, i.e. from the pathological and pathophysiological overview to the clinical manifestation of the disease with diagnostical, therapeutical and preventive options. The most common endocrine disorders are discussed-diseases of pituitary, thyroid, adrenal and parathyroid glands and disorders of bone metabolism. Further basic topic is diabetes mellitus, its types and complications. Disorders of lipid metabolism are taught in connection with atherosclerosis topic. The course further deals with the area of nutrition, from the evaluation of the nutritional status to parenteral and enteral nutritional support and nutritional toxicology. Special seminar is focused on obesity.
