The course unit Pediatrics II for the 6th year of the General Medicine program focuses on deepening and expanding students' knowledge in pediatrics, with an emphasis on applying theoretical skills in practice. The aim is to review and enhance skills acquired in the 4th and 5th years. Students will focus on differential diagnosis and treatment of diseases specific to childhood, thus completing their pediatric education to the extent required for undergraduate study.

The course includes a wide range of activities, including seminars focused on specific areas of pediatrics, where students acquire theoretical foundations for solving clinical situations. The curriculum also includes model ward rounds featuring simulated cases, allowing students to discuss diagnostics and treatment procedures in concrete pediatric scenarios. Another part of the course involves bedside clinical training, conducted at University Hospital Královské Vinohrady, University Hospital Bulovka, and Thomayer University Hospital. This practice enables students to gain experience working with real patients and apply their theoretical knowledge in practice, including issues of intensive care. Finally, the course includes shadowing a general practitioner for children and adolescents, giving students valuable insights into the daily work of a pediatrician in primary care.

Teaching in Pediatrics II places strong emphasis on preventive, social, and developmental pediatrics, which are key components of pediatric thinking. Students are guided to develop critical thinking, the ability to correctly diagnose, and to choose appropriate treatment based on the individual needs of the child. This approach will help them better understand the specific nature of pediatric diseases and the demands that pediatrics places on comprehensive diagnostics and treatment.
