Annotation -
Content: Medical psychology and communication provides medical students with basic theoretical and practical aspects of psychological, behavioral, and social factors of health and illness. Graduates of the course will understand how psychological mechanisms influence health and illness. They will learn to use psychological procedures in diagnosis and treatment. They will verify that a functioning therapeutic relationship between doctor and patient is an essential tool for successful clinical management and a key means of achieving the best possible therapeutic outcome. They will learn basic communication principles in difficult situations. Graduates of the course will learn to cope with the extreme demands of the medical profession. The basic principle of both theoretical and practical teaching is interactivity and communication with students. Teaching materials (presentations, articles, links) are available in the Teaching web application. In addition to traditional methods, we will use the results of scientific studies and case studies in theoretical teaching. In practical teaching, we will include video examples of communication techniques and role-playing. Detailed course content is provided in the Teaching module, Course Information, in the attached Syllabus, and in the teaching units. Structure The course consists of a block of 42 hours (21 teaching units) taught in the form of clinical seminars with controlled attendance.

Cílem předmětu je sdílet se studenty níže uvedené znalosti, dovednosti a postoje.

Znalosti
Sociální psychologie: interakce mezi jedinci na individuální, skupinové a společenské úrovni v souvislosti s poskytováním zdravotnické péče; bio-psycho-sociální model zdraví a nemoci v prevenci a léčbě
Vývojová psychologie: vývoj osobnosti s ohledem na prožívání nemoci, komunikaci a specifické potřeby člověka v jednotlivých fázích vývoje osobnosti
Klinická psychologie: psychologické mechanismy tělesných a duševních onemocnění; psychologické faktory přispívající k nemoci a jejich vliv na průběh a výsledný stav, terapeutická nonadherence, psychoterapie, krizová intervence, psychologické vyšetření,
zásady prevence syndromu vyhoření a vhodné nástroje pro duševní hygienu

Dovednosti
Adekvátně komunikuje v obtížných situacích, k nimž patří sdělování závažných zpráv, rozhovor o citlivých tématech (například o abusu alkoholu, kouření či obezitě), či komunikace s pacienty úzkostnými, kognitivně oslabenými a psychotickými, bez náhledu na onemocnění.
Adekvátně komunikuje v multidisciplinárním týmu
Umí použít krátkou intervenci, motivační rozhovor, klinické koučování.
Komunikuje profesionálně s pacienty a příbuznými rozhněvanými a agresivními, umí používat deeskalační techniky.
Umí vhodně podpořit pacienta v péči o sebe, motivuje jej a edukuje.
Umí zhodnotit riziko sebevraždy a zná klinické vedení pacienta po sebevražedném pokusu.

Postoje
Komunikuje jasně a citlivě s lidmi bez ohledu na jejich věk, sociální, kulturní či etnický původ a hendikep.
Svým vystupováním a komunikací předchází stigmatizaci pacientů.
Respektuje autonomii pacienta i roli rodiny v souladu s principy sdíleného rozhodování.

Course completion requirements -

 

Participation in clinical seminars is expected. The condition for obtaining credit is attendance at 80% of classes, as documented by electronic attendance records. The exact number of hours required in each teaching block is specified in the attachments to the Syllabus in Teaching.

Requirements to the exam -

Exam
Succesfull passing of the 5th year oral Medical Psychology and Communication Exam is a prerequisite for participation in the State Exam from Neurobehavioural Sciences, that has two parts: Oral Medical Psychology exam and Oral commissional exam from psychiatry and neurology.

The rules for Medical Psychology an d Communication Exam are as follows.
• For oral exam from Medical psychology and communication student apply through the Student Information System (SIS). 
• Oral exam  takes place in the Department of psychology of 3rd Medical Faculty, Ruská 87, building B. The terms are published in Study Information System (SIS).
• At the examination, student will be allotted one question. List of questions is available in web module Vyuka, Medical psychology, Informace o predmetu unit.
• Successful passing of the oral exam from psychology is prerequisite for participation at the oral commisional exam from psychiatry and neurology. Successful passing is defined as the grade „excellent“, „very good“ or „good“. This result is part of the overall result of the state exam.
• If the student subsequently does not pass oral commissional state exam from from neurobehavioral sciences the result from oral exam from psychology remains valid and the exam does not have to be repeated.
