Annotation -
The content of the course is the application of acquired theoretical knowledge in practical exercises. Development of deciduous and permanent dentition and development of jaws. Examination of a child including the evaluation of the dental age and basic orthodontic diagnosis. Diagnostics of the most common diseases of the orofacial area in children and adolescents, assessment of a treatment plan. Further deepening and interconnection of acquired theoretical knowledge.

Credit Requirements

  1. Attendance

    • Minimum 90% attendance at practical classes and seminars.

    • One absence is permitted.

    • Additional absences must be justified by a written medical certificate and compensated in full after agreement with the head teacher of Pediatric Dentistry, upon completion of all teaching blocks.

    • Any late arrival is considered an absence.

  2. Clinical Performance

    • Completion of the required minimum number of clinical procedures, evaluated with grades A–C.

    • In the case of a grade D, the student must submit a written essay on the given topic (MS Word format, 2× A4 pages, font size 12, line spacing 1.15, standard margins). The essay must be submitted to the supervising teacher before credit is granted.

  3. Radiographic Assessment

    • Oral assessment of an orthopantomogram during the final week of the block placement.

    • Evaluation criteria include:

      1. Determination of dental age.

      2. Description of developmental stages of permanent teeth.

      3. Identification of pathologies.

      4. Development of a treatment plan, including therapeutic alternatives.

    • Graded A–C.

  4. Final Evaluation

    • The average grade from clinical performance and the orthopantomogram assessment will form part of the state examination in Therapeutic Dentistry as the practical component in Pediatric Dentistry.

  5. Credit Attempts

    • Students are allowed three attempts to obtain credit.

    • The second and third attempts may be taken no earlier than 14 days after the previous attempt (i.e., with the next student group).

    • The third attempt, if needed, will be a commission examination in the presence of faculty authorities.

  6. Failure to Meet Requirements

    • If the student fails the third attempt or does not meet all of the above conditions, credit will not be granted, regardless of the remaining duration of the academic year 2024/25.

    • In such cases, procedures will follow the Study and Examination Regulations of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University.
