Preclinical dentistry is a preclinical subject leading to the understanding of basic facts of all specialties of dentistry: operative dentistry, prosthetic dentistry, oral surgery, periodontology, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, preventive dentistry. Students learn about principles of science on dental materials used in treatment of patients, basic procedures for caries treatment, periodontal diseases, tooth extraction techniques and prosthetic appliances realization. Knowledge of basic manipulation with devices in dental office and laboratory. Student must be able to perform examination of the patient including X-ray reading and treatment planning.

The conditions to obtain the credit.

1) Only one absence is tolerated for major reasons and must be excused (medical report, incapacity, serious family situation). The student will be obligated to prepare a presentation on the missing topic.

2) To master  practical skills according to the sylabus .

3) It is mandatory to obtain a 75% success rate  on all tests throughout the semester.

4) It is mandatory to achieve at least 75% on the FINAL credit test (in 1st or 2nd  attempt) (Classification: A-100-95%, B-90-85%, C-80-75%, D-70% and less). In the case that 70% or less has been attained on the second attempt, an oral examination by the examinating board follows as the final option. A lack of knowledge  is a reason to repeat year of study or to end the  studies.  The intervals between dates must be at least 14 days.

   Complete denture- working and laboratory procedure, incl. settingup the denture teeth.

   Root canal obturation- procedures, techniques.

3.Sterilization in dentistry and  maxillofacial surgery.

   Liners and base materials- importance and classification .

   Overdentures. Using of dental implants by prosthodontic reconstructions- indications,

   types of dentures.

4.Agent for chemical disinfection, asepsis, antisepsis.

   Impression materials - elastomers.

   Curing lamps- description, properties, use.

5.Aseptic and hygiene procedures in the dental office.

   Endodontic treatment sequence.

   Anatomy of edentulous upper and lower jaw.

6.Important surgical and anatomical relations in upper jaw.

   Hydrocolloid impression material.

   Methods to ensure dry operating field in restoratve dentistry.
