Annotation

The Doctoral Seminar is a cornerstone of the study program, providing regular contact between doctoral students
and the Department of Sociology. Students are required to participate actively throughout their studies, even if it
exceeds the standard study period.
The seminar primarily involves the presentation of progress on the dissertation and critical discussion among
doctoral students and supervisors. The content of the presentations corresponds to the stage of study, ranging
from the initial dissertation project at the beginning of the studies, through the development of methodology and
theoretical foundations, to the dissertation theses and completed sections (or individual articles). Senior students
may also use the seminar to consult and present prepared academic texts or conference presentations.
Additionally, the seminar serves as a platform for sharing doctoral students' experiences (e.g., international
internships, publishing), reflecting on developments in the field, etc.
The seminar is held regularly, at least once every four weeks, although part of it may be conducted in a block
format, such as a (residential) workshop or student conference.

Course completion requirements

Students are required to regularly present their progress on their dissertation during the seminars and, where applicable, other academic activities. They are also expected to actively participate in discussions related to the presentations of their peers' work.
