In this language course, we will explore Prague together and learn step by step to read the city as a historical, cultural, and linguistic space. The focus will be on the architecture and history of the city, as well as the intersection of German-speaking and Czech cultural environments.
The course is based on the belief that language learning is particularly effective when it is linked to thematic content and when intellectual work is combined with movement.
From a linguistic point of view, we will focus primarily on structures that are important for storytelling and describing places, such as past tenses, the passive voice, prepositions, adverbs, and relative clauses.
In the first phase of the course, we will develop vocabulary and communication skills in class and plan specific projects for the second part. Weather permitting, the second part will be devoted to thematic walks, which will be prepared and led by the course participants.
The course is intended for students at the B1/B2 level who need to develop their language skills in narration and description in connection with their field of study – for example, students of history or art history, but also anyone interested in shared history, architecture, and urban topography who enjoys physical activity and wants to try an unconventional form of teaching.

V tomto jazykovém kurzu budeme společně objevovat Prahu a krok za krokem se učit číst město jako historický, kulturní a jazykový prostor. V centru pozornosti bude architektura a dějiny města i průsečík německy mluvícího a českého kulturního prostředí.
Kurz vychází z přesvědčení, že učení se jazyku je obzvlášť účinné tehdy, je-li propojeno s tematickým obsahem a když se intelektuální práce spojuje s pohybem.
Z jazykového hlediska se zaměříme především na struktury důležité pro vyprávění příběhů a popis míst, například na minulé časy, pasivum, předložky, příslovce a vztažné věty.
V první fázi kurzu budeme v hodinách rozvíjet slovní zásobu a komunikační prostředky a plánovat konkrétní projekty pro druhou část. Ta bude – pokud to počasí dovolí – věnována tematickým procházkám, jejichž přípravu a vedení budou postupně přebírat účastníci kurzu.
Kurz je určen studentům na úrovni B1/B2, kteří v souvislosti se svým studijním oborem potřebují rozvíjet jazykové dovednosti vyprávění a popisu – například studentům historie či dějin umění, zároveň ale všem kteří se zajímají o společnou historii, architekturu a městskou topografii, kteří mají rádi pohyb a chtějí si vyzkoušet netradiční formu jazykove výuky.

Active participation in all phases of the course
Independent preparation of 1–2 walks and leading the walk itself (in case of bad weather, alternatively preparing a presentation for in-person teaching)
Collaboration on the final output (online presentation) / creating a guide for online publication
