The course is devoted to the practical training of reading German written sources from the 14th - 15 century. 
During the lessons, the students will get acquainted with the translation of German medieval texts on examples of concrete texts.
The whole topic is adapted to the professional needs of graduates of archival science and auxiliary historical sciences or history.
The seminar focuses on the outline of the development of the German language, an overview of the German dialects, the introduction of German geographical names in the Czech Republic.
The seminar will revise and deepen the knowledge of historical measures and weights, historical holidays and dates and geographical names in comparison with Czech and German equivalents. 
 
Entry to the course is conditional on passing the B2 exam at the Language Center of the Faculty of Arts and obtaining a credit in the Deutsch der neuzeitlichen Quellen course.

Credit

The active participant in seminars, which is tied to the systematic home application, is used to obtain the credit. Accepted persons can be 3 excused absences. Paleographic transcriptions and translations into Czech and contemporary German German-language lists or other comprehensive texts originate on the territory of your republic on one side. Selection of a text student Separately in the archive and its scope or suitability it is possible to consult with the teacher in advance.

Exam

The condition for admission to the exam is the submission of the seminar paper. The work must include paleographic transcription, translation into Czech and contemporary German documents prepared for the credit (see above), as well as analysis of phonetic, morphological, syntactic and lexical levels, warning of possible dialectal elements and other developmental peculiarities of the text. The work must be accompanied by a copy of the original document. The evaluation of the seminar work is not included in the overall evaluation of the exam. Seminar work must be submitted at least 14 days before the date of the exam directly by the teacher in the consultation hours or personally delivered or sent to the address Language Center, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, nám. Jana Palacha 2, 116 38 Praha 1. The work cannot be sent by e-mail. In the theoretical oral part of the exam students demonstrate knowledge of the development of German language and the names of measures, weights, holidays and geographical names. In the practical written part they will prove the ability to translate excerpts of medieval text into Czech and write a replacement regest in German. In case of insufficient written part the student does not have to be admitted to the oral part.
