This is a one-semester course, taught 2x2 lessons a week.
Course English I is designed for lower-intermediate students (A2/B1), corresponding to the level of the
standardised state school-leaving exam. It offers topics and texts with an academic flavour. Apart from reviewing
and consolidating the basic grammatical structures, it deals with key strategies on how to write an essay and take
notes etc. The leaving level is set to B1+.
To find out their level of Eglish students can use the level test created by the British Council.

Kurz je jednosemestrální, 2x2 hod. týdně.
Kurz je určen studentům a studentkám se základní znalostí anglického jazyka minimálně na úrovni B1- tak, jak ji
testuje standardizovaná maturitní zkouška. Cílem tohoto úvodního kurzu je utřídit, upevnit a prohloubit výchozí
znalosti (gramatické struktury a slovní zásobu) a dovednosti (čtení, psaní, poslech, mluvení) v anglickém jazyce
tak, aby studenti mohli přejít do vyššího typu kurzu (English B2). Studenti a studentky se zaměří na témata z
akademického prostředí a procvičí strategie psaní v anglickém jazyce (esej, psaní poznámek).
Výstupní úroveň angického jazyka je B1+.
K zjištení své úrovně anglického jazyka mohou studenti a studentky využít testu vytvořeného Britskou radou.

Students will obtain 4 credit points for the course if they fulfill the following requirements.

• regular attendance
  
• completion of all assignments
• submission of 1 written assignment (preparation for the Writing part of the B2 exam)
• passing the credit test (min. 60% of correct answers)

The course is structured around the units 1 - 10 of the textbook Complete IELTS Bands 4-5. Additional materials are taken from other textbooks focusing on IELTS (or FCE) preparation, grammar and vocabulary practice, and original texts in English. Students will practice all four language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Overview of grammatical and lexical units

Grammar: present simple and continuous, past simple, making comparisons, present perfect, countable and uncountable nouns, conditionals, prepositions to describe graphs, relative pronouns, the passive, modal verbs

Vocabulary: collocations and prepositional phrases, environment, design, literacy, global problems, words that give directions, opinions and feelings, word formation, spelling

Osu kurzu tvoří lekce 1 - 10 učebnice Complete IELTS Bands 4-5. Doplňkové materiály pocházejí z přípravných učebnic na certifikované zkoušky, učebnic zaměřených na gramatiku či slovní zásobu a původních zdrojů v anglickém jazyce. Kurz rovnoměrně procvičuje všechny čtyři jazykové dovednosti: čtení, poslech, mluvení a psaní.

Přehled probíraných jevů

Gramatikcké struktury: přítomný čas prostý, a průběhový, minulý čas prostý, srovnávání, předpřítomný čas, počitatelná a nepočitatelná podstatná jména, podmiňovací způsob, předložky k popisu grafů, vztažná zájmena, trpný rod, modální slovesa

Témata a zaměření slovní zásoby: předložkové vazby, životní prostředí, design, gramotnost, globální problémy, slova vyjadřující směr, vyjadřování názorů a pocitů, spelling, slovotvorba
