This one-semester asynchronous e-learning course is delivered through individually completed assignments in Moodle, accompanied by teacher feedback. The total workload corresponds to approximately 100 hours of self-study.
The course aims to develop and consolidate the language skills of students so that they can successfully pass the compulsory English language exam at the B2 level at the Faculty of Arts, in the next examination period.
The course will focus on practising the skills tested by the exam (listening, grammar and lexis, reading and writing), developing appropriate vocabulary and preparing for the oral part of the exam - selecting an appropriate text and its interpretation.
Unfortunately, due to the asynchronous nature of the course, there will be only limited space for the speaking part, in the form of an audio-visual presentation of the chosen text, which learners will submit and on which they will receive feedback from both peers and the teacher.

The course is intended exclusively for those who plan to take the English language exam at the B2 level at the Faculty of Arts in the same semester.
Enrolled learners will receive an information email at the beginning of the semester with a link to the course on Moodle.

Tento jednosemestrální asynchronní e-learningový kurz probíhá formou individuálně plněných úkolů v systému Moodle, doplněných zpětnou vazbou vyučující. Celková časová náročnost odpovídá přibližně 100 hodinám samostudia.
Cílem kurzu je rozvíjet a upevnit jazykové dovednosti u studentů a studentek tak, aby v následujícím zkouškovém období úspěšně složili povinnou zkoušku z anglického jazyka na úrovni B2 na FF UK.
Kurz je zaměřen na nácvik jednotlivých dovedností, které zkouška testuje v písemné části (poslech, gramaticko-lexikální část, čtení a psaní), rozvoj patřičné slovní zásoby a přípravu na ústní část zkoušky - výběr vhodného textu a jeho interpretace.
Vzhledem k asynchronní povaze kurzu bohužel na část speaking v tomto typu kurzu bude pouze omezený prostor, a to pouze formou namluvené prezentace zvoleného textu, kterou studující odevzdají a k níž dostanou zpětnou vazbu jak od kolegyň a kolegů, tak i od vyučující.

Kurz je určen výhradně pro ty, kteří plánují skládat zkoušku z anglického jazyka na úrovni B2 na FF UK v nadcházejícím semestru.

Aim of the course -
The aim of the course is to develop students’ academic language skills in English at the B2 level in line with the requirements of the Faculty exam. The course focuses on understanding spoken and written academic English, consolidating grammar and vocabulary, and strengthening reading, writing, and presentation skills. Students will practice producing coherent written texts, applying listening and reading strategies, and learning to clearly summarize, interpret, and present academic content. An integral part of the course is working with feedback—both providing constructive evaluation to peers and using received feedback to improve one’s own performance.

Cílem předmětu je rozvíjet jazykové a akademické dovednosti studentů v angličtině na úrovni B2 v souladu s požadavky fakultní zkoušky. Kurz je zaměřen na porozumění mluvené i psané akademické angličtině, upevnění gramatiky a slovní zásoby, a na dovednosti čtení, psaní i prezentace odborných textů. Studenti si procvičí tvorbu koherentních písemných projevů, rozvoj poslechových a čtenářských strategií, a osvojí si schopnost jasně shrnout, interpretovat a prezentovat akademický obsah. Součástí kurzu je také práce se zpětnou vazbou – jak poskytování konstruktivní evaluace spolužákům, tak její využití k vlastnímu zlepšení.

The course is concluded with a credit, which is awarded based on fulfilling the following conditions:
completion of all assignments in Moodle
submission of a final assignment in the form of a spoken presentation of a selected academic text in the field of study

Learning outcomes -
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
Understand and process spoken academic English at the B2 level by applying listening strategies to tasks similar to those in the Faculty exam.
Apply grammar and vocabulary knowledge to complete exam-style use-of-English tasks and demonstrate control of structures and lexis expected at B2.
Read and interpret academic and semi-academic texts at the B2 level, identifying main ideas, supporting details, and overall structure.
Produce coherent and well-structured written texts (e.g., essay, summary, argumentative response) in accordance with the requirements of the Faculty exam.
Select, summarize, and present an academic text (through a recorded presentation), demonstrating the ability to explain and interpret its content clearly.
Engage in peer and self-assessment by providing constructive feedback on classmates’ written and spoken outputs and using feedback to improve their own performance.

Po úspěšném absolvování kurzu bude student / studentka schopen(a):
Porozumět mluvené akademické angličtině na úrovni B2 prostřednictvím aplikace poslechových strategií na úkoly podobné těm ve fakultní zkoušce.
Aplikovat znalost gramatiky a slovní zásoby při plnění úkolů typu use-of-English a prokázat zvládnutí jazykových struktur a lexika očekávaného na úrovni B2.
Číst a interpretovat akademické a poloodborné texty na úrovni B2, identifikovat hlavní myšlenky, podpůrné detaily a celkovou strukturu textu.
Vytvořit koherentní a dobře strukturovaný písemný projev (např. esej, shrnutí, argumentační odpověď) v souladu s požadavky fakultní zkoušky.
Vybrat, shrnout a prezentovat odborný text (formou nahrané prezentace) a jasně vysvětlit a interpretovat jeho obsah.
Zapojit se do sebehodnocení a hodnocení vrstevníků prostřednictvím poskytování konstruktivní zpětné vazby na písemné a mluvené výstupy spolužáků a využít získanou zpětnou vazbu ke zlepšení vlastního výkonu.
