This is a one-semester course, 1x2 face-to-face lessons per week + 2 lessons of distant study via the Moodle platform.
The Course English I is designed for lower-intermediate students (A2/B1), corresponding to the level of the standardized state school-leaving exam. Unlike general English, it offers topics and texts with an academic flavour. Apart from reviewing and consolidating the basic grammatical structures, it deals with key strategies on how to write an essay and take notes etc. The leaving level is set to B1+.

In-person learning:
1 x 2 face-to-face lessons and about 2 online lessons (Moodle) - the time required for the online work relates also to the individual approach and level of English knowledge of a particular student.
The work in the course is divided into the face-to- face lessons and self-study activities – the online part.
Before the beginning of the course the students will be sent an email with the information on signing in Moodle and logging in the online lessons.

Kurz je jednosemestrální, 1x2 hod. týdně prezenční výuka + 2hod. distanční formou plnění úkolů prostřednictvím platformy Moodle.
Kurz je určen studentům a studentkám se základní znalostí anglického jazyka minimálně na úrovni B1- tak, jak ji testuje standardizovaná maturitní zkouška. Cílem tohoto úvodního kurzu je utřídit, upevnit a prohloubit výchozí znalosti (gramatické struktury a slovní zásobu) a dovednosti (čtení, psaní, poslech, mluvení) v anglickém jazyce tak, aby studenti mohli přejít do vyššího typu kurzu (Angličtina B2). Studenti a studentky se zaměří na témata z akademického prostředí a procvičí strategie psaní v anglickém jazyce (esej, psaní poznámek).
Výstupní úroveň anglického jazyka je B1+.
K zjištění své úrovně anglického jazyka mohou studenti a studentky využít testu vytvořeného Britskou radou. https://learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/en/content
V případě, že si je student/ka vědom/a některých mezer v základní gramatice a slovní zásobě, doporučujeme e-learningové kurzy A1 (ZS) a A2 (LS).
Prezenční výuka:
1 x 2 hod. týdně prezenční výuky a cca 2 hodiny týdně práce online v Moodle (časová dotace samostatné práce online se odvíjí i od individuálního přístupu a vstupních znalostí konkrétního studenta).

The course is structured around the units 1 - 10 of the textbook Complete IELTS Bands 4-5. Additional materials are taken from other textbooks focusing on IELTS (or FCE) preparation, grammar and vocabulary practice, and original texts in English. Students will practice all four language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.
Overview of grammatical and lexical units
Grammar: present simple and continuous, past simple, making comparisons, present perfect, countable and uncountable nouns, conditionals, prepositions to describe graphs, relative pronouns, the passive, modal verbs
Vocabulary: collocations and prepositional phrases, environment, design, literacy, global problems, words that give directions, opinions and feelings, word formation, spelling

Osu kurzu tvoří lekce 1 - 10 učebnice Complete IELTS Bands 4-5. Doplňkové materiály pocházejí z přípravných učebnic na certifikované zkoušky, učebnic zaměřených na gramatiku či slovní zásobu a původních zdrojů v anglickém jazyce. Kurz rovnoměrně procvičuje všechny čtyři jazykové dovednosti: čtení, poslech, mluvení a psaní.
