The seminar focuses on utopian, dystopian, and anti-utopian tendencies in Scandinavian literature of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We will explore how authors respond to social crises, political ideologies, technological developments, ecological threats, and transformations of human identity through the creation of model and alternative worlds. Attention will be paid to narrative strategies, world-building, the relationship between the individual and the collective, and the ethical questions raised by these texts. The seminar combines literary-historical context with systematic interpretation of selected works and develops the ability to read utopia and dystopia as tools of critical thinking.

The language of the course is Czech. The course is open to students of all Scandinavian languages and at different stages of their studies. Last update: Stahr Radka, Mgr., Ph.D. (03.02.2026)
