The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the content basics of the sociological issue of change through systematic interpretation. Emphasis will be placed on selected key sociological topics with an overlap to the current context. The course includes a separate reading of literature. The interpretation is largely built on the level of the so-called mid-range theory (R. K. Merton), which should help students, among other things, develop specific research questions and verifiable hypotheses in their own bachelor's thesis. In content, the material is divided into two blocks, with the first presenting the students with selected dimensions and actors of social change (State, power and politics; Economics and labour, capitalism; Welfare state; Civil society and social movements; Migration; Gender and family) and the second block discussing the facts in relation to the general problems of long-term structural change (Theory of the Post-Modern, Post-Industrial and Information Society; Democratisation, Individualisation, and Group identity; Growth of reflexivity and sociological reflection of the risks associated with the crisis of the modern project; Globalisation as a long-term process).<br>

Exam: a written examination takes the form of a test verifying knowledge gained from lectures and reading mandatory literature (this will be shown for each topic on the Moodle platform and combines texts in Czech and English). The maximum test score is 50. The aim of the examination is to verify the acquisition of basic knowledge that should be acquired by all sociology students. The aim, on the other hand, is not to verify knowledge of highly specialised knowledge. A minimum of 60%, or 30 points, is required to pass the test. The classification scale is as follows:

50-42 … excellent

41-36 … very good

35-30 … good

Each student has a maximum of three attempts at the test, counting the best, rather than the last. However, each test date is counted as one test date.

Example: If a student gets a grade very good at the first term but is not satisfied with it and wants to improve the grade, she can apply for the second term, but in that case the first term is counted in SIS as a term with a rating of 4 (she did not pass).

The deadline for obtaining course attestation is the end of the winter semester examination period in the academic year following the academic year in which the student attended the course.
