Annotation -
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the issues of psychological counseling services with a particular focus on school counseling and to show the specifics of this practical special discipline. Specific attention will be paid to the problems of school psychologist's activity and the activity of school counseling facilities.

Course content: History of school psychology, legal and ethical issues of school counselling; Institutional provision of school psychology and counselling, related legislation, system of support measures for pupils with special educational needs; Research in the field of school psychology and its methods; Networking of participants in the educational process - cooperation with teachers, parents, other institutions; Individual and group diagnostic activities of the school psychologist; Intervention activities of the school psychologist; School classroom management, preventive and developmental programmes in the classroom; School immaturity, specific developmental learning disorders, impaired communication skills - points of contact, resolution, manifestations in the school environment; Specific behavioural disorders, autism spectrum disorders - points of contact, resolution, manifestations in the family and school environment; Risks of school failure due to lower intellectual dispositions (mental retardation, significantly below average intellectual performance). Possible specifics of pupils with exceptional talents; Sensory defects, physical disabilities - educational specifics; Issues of socio-emotional disorders in the school environment - manifestations, possibilities of support

Course completion requirements -

Three requirements must be fulfilled.

  1. Attendance
    Attendance at both lectures and seminars is mandatory. The maximum permitted absence is 30%.
  2. Teamwork
    During class, students work in groups on assigned tasks, which they then submit to Moodle.
  3. Independent work
    At the end of the semester, students complete an individual assignment aimed at applying the acquired knowledge and theoretical approaches to a given model situation from school or counseling practice, demonstrating their ability to competently interpret real-life situations.
