The content of the course is to introduce students to the psychopathology of individual mental disorders, their diagnosis, differential diagnosis and the possibilities of therapeutic influence, including the contribution of the psychologist.
The aim of the course is to show the basic principles of working with the mentally ill - approach, examination techniques. Acquired knowledge: the student understands the basic principles of work with the mentally ill; knows the appropriate approach and technique of examination of the mentally ill; can describe and explain the individual components of psychological functions, understands their content, knows their pathological manifestations; identifies the possibilities of examination techniques and pharmacological methods of the treatment process; can list the most important psychological information sources. Acquired skills: the student is oriented in the rules and approaches of work with mentally ill people, can apply the acquired knowledge in further studies; can interpret individual disorders of psychological functions in clinical practice; can create a symptomological and syndromological analysis of psychopathological manifestations; assess the results of examination techniques; understands the possibilities of pharmacological treatment; can correctly interpret psychological knowledge of the professional and lay public. Content of the course: basic examination, principles of interview with the patient, medical history. History of mental illness. Personality and its disorders. Thinking and its disorders. Perception and its disorders. Emotions and their disorders. Urges and instincts and their disorders. Consciousness and its disorders. Intelligence and its disorders. The will and its disorders. Biological aspects of mental disorders - possibilities of investigation. Examination techniques. ECT and other shock methods. Basic pharmacology.
