The aim of the course is to deepen the insight into the structure and dynamics of the pedagogical debate of the 20th century - especially into the issues of the reform of the pedagogical world movement and the development of socialist pedagogy in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1989. Students are guided to analyze selected 20th century pedagogical concepts and discourses in the context of broader socio-political issues.
1. Selected figures and trends in late 19th Century and interwar pedagogical thought around the world: - J. Dewey and pedagogical pragmatism; - The concept of the working school and its influence on 20th century pedagogy: G. Kerschensteiner; C. Freinet, A. Feriere; - A. S. Neill's school and its influence on the concept of the so-called rural educational institutes-H. Lietz, G. Kierchenstein, G. Kierchenstein, G. Scheinstein, and G. Scheinstein. Wyneken, K. Metzner; - The “healthy school” and its models - psychologization and biologization of education: O. Decroly, E. Claparede, M. Montessori, J. Piaget, psychoanalytic pedagogy; - individualisation attempts in education - the Dalton plan, the Winnet system, P. Petersen and the Jena plan; holistic education and the concept of R. Steiner. 2. Socialist pedagogy: the development of socialist education after 1948. Ormal and non-formal education under socialism. Education of the socialist man - aims, means, forms. Pedagogical science in the bonds of Marxist-Leninist ideology. Development of pedagogy in the period of communist totalitarianism. Teacher education after 1945. Last update: KASPERT (05.06.2025)
