Annotation -
We will write a scholarly article on some corpus linguistic topic. First we'll try to agree on a common topic, discuss methodology and various details, try not to drown in heuristics, formulate hypotheses, dive into data... and then we write it up.
Ideally, we'll be able to submit it to a good journal during the semester.
The seminar is limited to six people, preferably abnormally motivated, (no blood, sweat or tears I hope, but I can't rule them out). It's going to be more work than a normal seminar, and I'll say straight out that it's not worth the credits, but we will end up with a decent publication, which is ideal if you want to apply for a PhD study, or if you are already doing one.
Motivation is thus the only precursor, however, if you have completed General Linguistic Laws in Texts (AMLV00066), you will be at an advantage. It would be great to get a diverse group together who specializes in different aspects of linguistics and who can speak different languages.
