The course focuses on various topics within practical lexicography. The three main areas covered during the
semester are: monolingual lexicography, bilingual lexicography, and specialized lexicography (or terminography).
We will focus both on macrostructure of a dictionary (size of a dictionary, headword selection etc.) and
microstructure of an entry (incl. definitions of meaning or translation equivalents, frequency, collocations and
phraseology). The practical part of the course will concentrate on creating actual dictionary entries of various types,
such as single-word headword, multi-word headword (or phrase), bilingual entry, or professional term.

The course is taught mainly in Czech and therefore requires sufficient proficiency in order to attend.
