The history of racism is still highly controversial among historians. Rather different research traditions are using different definitions and come to different conclusions about the origins, the development, and the deeper reasons for racism in a global perspective. This course gives an introduction and takes a closer look to certain examples of racism in rather different societies (European settler colonies, colonialism, racial slavery in the USA, Social Darwinism, eugenics and the genocidal national socialist racism).
