This course covers basic morphology and syntax according to the Cambridge Latin Course I and II.
The Cambridge Latin Course is the most popular and most successful Latin course in the UK. With over 4,000,000 copies sold, its methods are well established and highly effective. There are five Books in the Cambridge Latin Course which take students from beginner to Level 2/GCSE. The story-based Course provides an enjoyable and carefully paced introduction to the Latin language, complemented by background information on Roman culture and civilisation. The material progresses from simple stories written specially for the Course, through adaptations of Roman authors, to original texts. The texts are accompanied by explanations of key language points, and are supported by grammar practice exercises. CLC I: We're travelling back almost 2000 years to AD 79, a time when the Romans controlled much of Europe. The magnificent Italian city of Rome is the centre of the Roman Empire and 125 miles to the south of the capital are the beautiful Bay of Naples, the slumbering volcano Mount Vesuvius, and the prosperous Roman town of Pompeii. Students are familiar with Latin linguistic terminology and are able to read simple Latin texts on their own, as well as translating texts with detailed comprehension of the sentence structure and grammar used. Cambridge Latin Course Textbook I, II Shall the students need anything else, it will be provided at the lessons/sent via Moodle platform.
There are enough copies of the book in the library at the Institute for Greek and Latin Studies (Celetná), the book is also available online (the link provided in the Moodle course).

While reading and translating texts, students discover grammarical rules and laws. We will discuss Latin vocabulary to map patterns and the system of loanwords to English and other languages. A substantial part of the learning process happens through obligatory homework (see https://dl1.cuni.cz/course/view.php?id=11061#section-0).
