Annotation
Since the end of the 19th century, Iranian art witnessed significant changes in its form, as well as content structures. Traditional values were questioned and re-evaluated, and Iranian artists and intellectuals negotiated the ideas of modernity. It is important to distinguish what ‘modern’ and ‘contemporary’ mean in the context of non-Western art. Also to understand the current problems and assumptions and to get familiar with the process of social changes through art.
This course aims to have a vast overview of highlights of Iranian art in spheres such as visual art, performing art, cinema, and theatre, from the end of the nineteenth century until the present time.
