Das Seminar gibt einen Überblick über das Werk Johann Wolfgang Goethes - von seinen Anfängen im Sturm und Drang (u.a. "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers") über das sogenannte "klassische Jahrzehnt" (u.a. "Iphigenie auf Tauris" und "Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre") bis hin zum späten Goethe, der eigentlich keiner literaturgeschichtlichen Epoche mehr zugeordnet werden kann ("Faust II", "Westöstlicher Divan", "Wilhelm Meisters Wanderjahre"). Ein Reader mit den zu lesenden Ausschnitten steht oben zum Download bereit. Voraussetzung für einen Schein sind regelmäßige Teilnahme, die gründliche Lektüre der Texte und eine aktive Teilnahme am Seminargespräch. Das Seminar verlangt durchaus einen hohen Lektüreaufwand; allerdings werden meist nur Ausschnitte aus den Texten besprochen.
