The seminar introduces the fundamentals of phraseology as a subdiscipline of linguistics and develops students’ phraseological competence. It covers definitions, classifications, and subtypes of phraseological units (idioms, collocations, proverbs, set phrases) as well as pragmatic, contrastive, and culture-reflective aspects.
The focus is on practice-oriented tasks and exercises, including regular contrastive comparisons between German and the students’ first language.

Das Seminar führt in die Grundlagen der deutschen Phraseologie als linguistische Teildisziplin ein und vertieft die phraseologische Kompetenz der Studierenden. Es behandelt Definitionen, Klassifikationen und Unterarten von Phrasemen (Idiome, Kollokationen, Sprichwörter, Redewendungen) sowie pragmatische, kontrastive und kulturreflexive Aspekte.
Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf praxisorientierten Aufgaben und Übungen, welche von den Studierenden regelmäßig zu erbringen sind.

Aim of the course

By the end of the seminar, students will be able to:

• explain key concepts and classifications of phraseology,

• identify and distinguish different types of phraseological units,

• analyse their pragmatic and culture-related functions,

• compare phraseological expressions contrastively (German - Czech),

• use idiomatic expressions appropriately in their own language production.

·       zentrale Begriffe und Klassifikationen der Phraseologie erläutern,

·       verschiedene Typen von Phrasemen sicher erkennen und unterscheiden,

·       deren pragmatische und kulturreflexive Funktionen analysieren,

·       Phraseologismen kontrastiv (z.B. Deutsch - Tschechisch) vergleichen.
