The course focuses on the literary and cultural development in the Czech lands in the first half of the 19th century, i.e. it charts the artistic changes and movements from the Romantic era to the rise of the generation Májovci, with whom artistic realism began to take hold. The lecture series will include an excursion into Czech theatre, visual arts and music for a deeper, more systematic portrayal of the artistic and cultural dynamics of the 19th century in the area of the Czech Crown lands. Literature and art will also be viewed against the backdrop of contemporary art-theoretical and philosophical concepts, as well as social and political changes.<br>

The course (seminar) in the winter and summer semester ends with a credit, lectures are attested by an oral exam at the end of the summer semester. Conditions of individual attestations: a) credit: the condition for obtaining credit is: 1) active and regular participation in seminars (ie max. three absences, active approach, study of prescribed texts, fulfillment of tasks, participation in discussions), 2) own elaboration and presentation of a paper on a pre-agreed topic (an important personality of Czech cultural life, a literary text, a cultural institution) b) examination: the examination will take place in an oral form (approximately 20 minutes long interview), which will consist of two parts: 1) a cultural-historical part - the student will draw one of the questions corresponding to the titles of the lectures in the winter and summer semesters, first speak independently on the given topic and then answer additional questions (10 minutes) and 2) a specific part, which will be based on the student's list of studied primary and possibly also secondary literature (10 minutes). In order for a student to be admitted to the oral exam, he / she must send the teacher a so-called list of the activities. Without this list, the student will not be able to take the attestation. How to fill in the list of "activities" and what to look out for? a. You must write at least 4 entries for each exam question, each additional entry can help you on the exam - your cultural activity will be valued on the exam. b. If "activity" is prescribed, you may list any experience you wish (reading fiction, reading specialist literature, listening to an audiobook, watching a film, documentary, attending a concert, gallery, lecture...). c. If "literary work" is prescribed, you must give the original literary work you read, including all necessary bibliographical information. d. Please take care to complete this list! Your list is crucial to the outcome of the exam! e. Send your list at least 3 days before the exam date for which you are applying. This certification may be taken in the following academic year.
