Czech in the world - the seminare focuses on issues related to the use of the Czech national language outside its historical location, i. e. as a language of emigrants and colonizers, in the form of lectures, presentations and discussions. The topic to be covered are emigrations, the specifics of Czech compatriot associations in the world, varieties of Czech in selected locations (American Czech, Czech spoken in Vienna, etc.), types of contacts of Czech and related as well as different language codes in the Czech Republic and abroad and their consequences; teaching Czech abroad

The objective is the introduction to varieties of the Czech national language, its history and present and the language of Czech communities abroad, the types of contacts of Czech and other languages.

To pass you have to master the addressed issues, to have the respective presence rate (two absences are allowed), to make a presentation and to pass the credit tests (75%).

If distance teaching is necessary, it will take place via Skype or Zoom. The students will receive written materials and sources. Active participation of students is expected, however, potential technical and other issues will be considered. To pass the subject, students need to prepare a presentation and pass a written test.

The course must be duly completed before the end of the respective semester; its completion may not be postponed until later.
