Introduction lo Linguistic Czech Studies
In the seminar, students will learn the essentials to be developed during their linguistic and Czech studies. This includes basic linguistics terminology, fundamental literature on Czech studies and journals, the works on the most important lectures in Czech Studies. The seminar also focuses on the stratification of the Czech national language and the role and functioning of its structural varieties in communication. We will focus on the typological characteristics of Czech, its basic properties, its place among (Slavic) languages. Students will learn the theory of standard language, including the contribution of the Prague Linguistic Circle, with the relation of language - nation, difference between oral and written communication and European language policy.

The objective is to learn fundamentals of the Czech Language Studies (see the syllabus).

To pass you have to master the addressed issues, to have the respectice presence rate (three absences are allowed), to make a presentation and to pass the credit tests (75%).

If distance teaching is necessary, it will take place via Skype or Zoom. The students will receive written materials and sources. Active participation of students is expected, however, potential technical and other issues will be considered. To pass the subject, students need to prepare a presentation and pass a written test.

The course must be duly completed before the end of the respective semester; its completion may not be postponed unitil later.

Repeated registration is allowed.
