Annotation
This course examines the latest tendencies and forms of expression in Iranian cinema by
highlighting some of the works of the latest generations of Iranian filmmakers as well as the
aspiring Iranian filmmakers in the diaspora.

The course tracks back these works and compares them to the works of Iranian filmmakers
during the 70’s and 80’s in an attempt to explore the influences of the golden times of Iranian
cinema on the Iranian filmmakers exploring new territories of film language today.

Selected feature and short length documentary and fiction films provide a transparent gateway
to a better understanding of the current state of filmmaking and its connection to the
sociopolitical fabric of Iranian life.

Class discussions make a major part of each session and provide the space required for the
students to explore various aspects of Iranian films together.
